Navigation is a fundamental part of safety and enjoyment in the hills and mountains. This one day course includes the basics. In most cases we strongly recommend our two day Hill Skills and Navigation course as this covers all aspects of safety, preparation, equipment, more navigation skills and a chance to consolidate the skills over the two days. Our aim is to always maximise your confidence and enjoyment in the outdoors. We do however often run these courses for groups, such as walking groups and volunteer rangers, who already have some skills and experience but are missing the vital navigation skills. If you would like to book this course for a small group please do get in contact.

Who’s the course for:

This one day beginners navigation course is for those who have some experience in the hills but who want to brush up on their navigation skills. If you are new to the outdoors we do recommend our two day Hill Walking Skills course which includes full preparation and planning, weather and emergency procedures.

What’s included:

  • Planning a route
  • Map selection
  • Understanding and interpreting the map
  • Grid references
  • Compass bearings

Full course information, itinerary and kit list will be sent once the booking has been confirmed.
