This is the course we recommend for anyone who is looking to increase their skills and confidence in the countryside, hills, and moorlands. Being safe in the outdoors isn’t just about navigation it’s also about preparation.This two day course is designed to give you all the basic skills and includes, planning, clothing & equipment, weather, environmental impact and emergency procedures as well as basic navigation. Our aim is to maximise your confidence, enjoyment and safety in the outdoors.
Who’s the course for?
This course is for women beginners or for women who are new to planning and preparing walks in the hills and moorlands.

What’s included?
- Route planning: how to plan a successful, suitable route,including length and times.
- Clothing and equipment: Preparing your pack for the day including suitable clothing, nutrition and hydration, along with additional equipment to ensure your day out is an enjoyable one.
- Weather: where to check for weather and how it can affect your day out.
- Environment: Being aware of your impact on the hill and how to minimise this.
- Emergency procedures: Dealing with hazards and emergencies.
- Navigation: Basic navigation skills including map selection, reading and compass bearings.
