Practical outdoor first aid training for anyone who works, leads or spends time in remote environments.
Our 2 Day Outdoor First Aid Course provides 16 hours of practical training designed specifically for situations where professional medical assistance may be some distance away.
Learn from real Mountain Rescue experience. Your instructor is an active Mountain Rescue Team member and Remote Rescue Medical Technician, bringing practical experience of managing casualties in remote environments where professional help may be some time away.
Unlike first aid training aimed primarily at workplaces, outdoor first aid requires you to think about the environment around you, limited equipment, changing weather, difficult terrain and potentially longer waiting times for emergency services.
Over two practical days, you will learn how to assess an incident, prioritise casualties and make sensible decisions when faced with an emergency outdoors. The emphasis throughout the course is on realistic scenarios, giving you plenty of opportunities to practise the skills you have learnt.
Whether you are completing the course for an outdoor qualification or simply want greater confidence when walking, climbing or exploring remote places, our aim is to give you first aid skills that you can genuinely use.
Who is the 2 Day Outdoor First Aid Course for?
This course is particularly suitable for people who lead, instruct, supervise or participate in outdoor activities.
It is ideal for:
- Mountain Leaders and aspiring Mountain Leaders
- Hill and Moorland Leaders
- Rock Climbing Instructors
- Climbing and outdoor instructors
- Walking and mountaineering group leaders
- Duke of Edinburgh’s Award leaders and expedition staff
- Teachers and youth group leaders
- Outdoor activity professionals
- Climbers and mountaineers
- Hillwalkers and backpackers
- Anyone regularly visiting rural or remote environments
The course is also suitable for candidates who require a 16-hour Outdoor First Aid qualification in support of relevant National Governing Body awards, including Mountain Training qualifications.
You do not need to be an outdoor professional to attend. If you regularly walk, climb, camp or spend time in the countryside and want the confidence to deal with an accident or medical emergency, the course is equally relevant.
First aid designed for the outdoors
An incident on a hillside, climbing crag or remote footpath can be very different from an emergency in a town or workplace.
Help may take longer to arrive. Mobile reception may be limited. The casualty could be cold, wet or difficult to reach, and you may have very little first aid equipment available.
Our 2 Day Outdoor First Aid Course concentrates on working effectively in these conditions.
Rather than simply learning individual first aid techniques, you will consider the complete incident. This includes assessing danger, working out what has happened, deciding what needs to be treated first, protecting the casualty from the environment and arranging appropriate help.
Throughout the two days, we use practical exercises and scenarios to develop your ability to think clearly and respond confidently.
What will I learn?
The course combines essential first aid skills with the additional considerations involved in managing casualties outdoors.
Topics covered include:
Emergency assessment and casualty care
Injuries
Outdoor and environmental emergencies
|
CPR and life-threatening emergencies
Medical conditions
