This five day course is designed to provide you with an introduction to winter climbing.

Who’s it for

This course is ideal if you are looking to take your first step in Winter climbing. You will need some summer Rock climbing experience and winter mountain walking experience. This is a perfect follow on from our Winter Mountaineering course.

What’s included

  • Planning, weather & avalanche forecasts.
  • Refresh of basic winter skills, use of ice axe & crampons and movement skills
  • Basic rope work and belaying for both leader and second
  • Use of technical ice tools and crampons on a variety of mediums (ice, snow, rock & turf)
  • Winter anchor selection and use
  • Coaching of your movement on mixed ground & ice
  • Retreating from winter multi pitch climbs
  • Emergency procedures.
  • Avalanche awareness & safe route choice.
  • Winter navigation techniques
  • Small ratio, 2:1, lots of flexibility on route choice and itinerary

Accommodation is not included, we recommend you book a place in the town of Aviemore, where there are lots of options for hotels, B&B’s and apartments.
