On the course

Excellence is important to us so we ensure we keep our courses small, ensuring you benefit from the highest quality instruction and make the most out of your time. For example navigation courses are generally run at a 6:1 ratio.  All courses can be tailored to fit your personal requirements on a 1:1 or personal group ratio please contact us for more details.

Most courses run from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm, depending on the time of year. Exact times will be provided on the booking confirmation.

Unfortunately we can’t control the weather, wherever possible we continue with the course, in fact it is often better learning conditions when the weather isn’t perfect! Of course safety is of the utmost importance, if the weather is dangerous we will of course postpone the course.

For most of our courses you will need to provide your own transport unless otherwise stated.

For most of our courses we do not provide accommodation but can make recommendations if you need any.

Our Luxury Trails breaks include beautiful accommodation in each of our locations.

On most of our courses you will need to provide your own food and drink for the day. Our Luxury Trails breaks are fully inclusive of breakfast, packed lunch and three course dinner.

There are no toilets whilst out in the hills or in the parking spots. We will discuss taking toilet breaks whilst in the hills!

We strongly recommend wearing long trousers, avoiding shorts. We may go into areas where there are ticks and overgrown undergrowth.

We love dogs but unfortunately we don’t allow dogs on any of our courses. Experience has taught us that dogs can be a distraction to you and others on the course.

We do not allow drones on any of our courses.

Preparation

For most courses you will be required to supply all your own personal equipment. We do have a supply of maps and compasses but recommend you purchase your own. There are more details on the individual course and a kit list will be sent for your course.

You will be sent a full list when booking your course. For Navigation courses you will need the recommended map of the area, a compass (you can borrow one from us), packed lunch, water, snacks, appropriate outdoor clothing including waterproof jacket and trousers.

We have professional indemnity insurance and for all UK courses there is access to mountain rescue services and healthcare. You may consider purchasing your own personal accident and cancellation insurance, however this is a personal choice. Please note, we do have a cancellation policy (refer to our Terms & Conditions)

All of our courses do require a level of fitness as they predominantly take place in hilly countryside. You will need to be comfortable walking up and down hills. Distances covered vary depending on the course however our navigation course you will walk approximately 7k (4 miles) each day at a slow pace. Please contact us if you want to discuss this further.
