Our most comprehensive outdoor first aid course. You’ll cover everything in our 2 day course — and gain the same regulated Level 3 Outdoor First Aid certificate — but over three shorter days, with far more time for hands-on practical scenarios and extended sessions on the emergencies that matter most in the hills.
First aid skills fade fast when they’re crammed. Spreading the course over three days means shorter days, more repetition, and more time treating “casualties” outdoors — so when it happens for real, you act on instinct, not half-remembered theory.
Taught by a serving Search and Rescue team member. Your instructor doesn’t just teach First Aid — he delivers it on real mountain rescue callouts, in bad weather, on steep ground, hours from an ambulance. You’ll learn what actually works when help is a long way off, not just what’s in the manual.
Why three days?
The 16-hour syllabus is demanding, and on a 2 day course that means two long, intensive days. The 3 day format delivers the same regulated qualification with room to breathe:
- Shorter days and a steadier pace — better learning, less fatigue
- Significantly more time on practical scenarios, outdoors, in realistic conditions
- Extended content on hypothermia and hyperthermia — the environmental emergencies UK hill-goers most often face
- Extended content on sepsis and meningitis — recognising the deteriorating casualty early, when it counts
- More repetition of core skills, so they stick
Per day, it’s actually better value than the 2 day course.
Who’s the course for:
This course has been designed for leaders, instructors and teachers working in remote areas or outdoor locations. It suits those needing a 16hr outdoor first aid course to validate their National Governing Body Awards, such as Mountain Training — and anyone who wants the strongest possible grounding in outdoor casualty care.
It is also for outdoor recreation users, such as walkers, climbers and mountaineers, who want the confidence to deal with an emergency in a remote location — and enough practice that the skills are still there when it matters.
This course fulfils the requirements of the First Aid element of the expedition syllabus and is suitable for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards.
